Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy...

Inspired by the warm and sunny goodness we've been experiencing here in Sydney of late, I've spent the past couple of days making summer dresses.

I used the 'Smocked Sundress' pattern in Heather Ross' Weekend Sewing. I've had the broderie anglaise sitting in my stash for the past three years and decided it was time to use it.
The girls loved their new dresses so much they put them on straight away even though it was starting to cool down outside.

The fabric for this lovely little outfit which will be going to my niece for her birthday comes from a retromummy destash.

I also made a matching pair of 'Ruby's Bloomer's', also from Heather Ross' Weekend Sewing.

Ahhh summer, 'tis a beautiful thing!

  3. so cute! good to see that fabric went to a good home!!!!! so glad to hear you have your guys at home instead of pre-school....I don't know why I didn't do it sooner, I guess I just felt it was the done thing and you had to send them and now its just a relief...plus the money, retro daddy has another $600 a month in his pocket and this month I got a new dishwasher and next month I've earmarked a new fence for the front!!!!

  5. Great summer dresses. I soo love the orange one! I wish I had a vintage stash. What kind of shirring elastic did you use? I got a nylon type from Spotlight but it doesn't shir properly when I do it??? Even using the hot iron on steam...??

  6. Thanks Kim, I have used both Gutermann brand and Lincraft brand. I found the more rows of shirring you do and the closer together the better. I then spray the fabric with water using a spray bottle, stretch the fabric tight and iron it on hot and watch it crinkle up beautifully!
